The Town Council manages play areas at the following locations in Stowmarket:
* Recreation Ground
* Chilton Fields
* Hill Rise
* Lindsey Way
* Melford Road
The play area at the Recreation Ground has recently been upgraded as part of a bigger project to improve the site which also saw the installation of a ballpark, skatepark and CCTV camera. The play area cost £36,000 and was paid for through funding from the Corporate Regeneration Fund, Local Strategic Partnership and the Big Lottery. The Town Council is currently carrying out some additional improvements to the play area, including the installation of seating, bins and signage as well as improvements to the grass.
The Town Council is also working on plans to improve the other play areas in the town for which they are responsible. In order to improve the play areas, the Town Council needs to secure funding from external sources as play equipment is expensive. However, to secure funding, consultation with residents - particularly the children and young people who are going to use the play areas - is important. We need to be able to demonstrate to funders that we've found out from residents what they want so they can be confident that we will spend their money wisely.
If you would like to get involved with improving one of the above play areas or if you have any other queries regarding them, please contact Daniel Harvey, Public Services Manager, on 01449 776394 or email
