NORTH WARD  
Councillor Peter Everson
Peter has lived in Stowmarket for 35 years and has been a member of the Town Council since June 2007.
 
Councillor Gary Green
Gary was born in Stowmarket in 1970 and attended Combs Primary School, Combs Middle School and then Stowmarket High School. In 1987 his family moved to Earl Stonham but he returned to live in Stowmarket in 1996. After leaving school, Gary worked for his Father at Greens Removals and attended Suffolk College on a day release for 2 years gaining a first diploma in Business Management. He continued working for Greens Removals until 1994 when he became a Firefighter for the Defence Fire and Rescue Service at RAF Lakenheath where he still work today.

Gary is married to Paula who is a Nursery School Teacher at Foxglove Nursery. They have two beautiful daughters, who both attend school in Stowmarket School. Gary was proud to be elected to the Town and District Councils in May 2007 and the County Council in April 2008. He really enjoys the work and the interaction with the public and he continues to do his best to stand up for the views of not only the people in his ward but all the people of Stowmarket.
 
Councillor Duncan MacPherson

Duncan studied at Aberdeen and Cambridge, and moved to Stowmarket over 30 years ago. He has served as a Labour County and District Councillor, as well as serving on the Town Council for 19 years. Duncan is married with one son attending Stowmarket High School, and he works locally. At different times he has served as a Director of the Museum of East Anglian Life company and as a primary school governor, and is currently a governor on the High School and a Manager at the Kingsfield Pupil Referral Unit.

Duncan has been proud to serve the town in local government over a total of 21 years, and in this time has campaigned for many of the improvements which have taken place in the town, and as a County Councillor he started the Suffolk Safely to School initiative. Outside of politics he also supports Amnesty International, UNICEF, E.A.C.H. and the World Development Movement.

 
Councillor Barry Salmon
Born in Creeting St Peter, Barry has lived in Stowmarket for most of his life. He is married to Councillor Heather and has a grown up family and two wonderful grandchildren. Barry has been a Town Councillor since 1995 and served as Town Mayor in 2003/04.

Barry says "I love the town and I am very excited about the town's future, we still have work to do to improve the town centre after the changes made to the then A45 in the 1960's but I know that we will get there". Barry's interests outside the Town Council include DIY, gardening and volunteering at the Museum of East Anglian Life.
 
Councillor Mrs Heather Salmon
Heather has been a Town Councillor for 17 years. She is married to fellow Councillor Barry and has 2 sons, and twin grandchildren. Heather works in Stowmarket as a Support Worker at Crown Street working with adults with learning disabilities. She has lived in Stowmarket for 22 years and believes that that town has a lot to offer.

She is involved with the Museum of East Anglian Life where she is a Trustee and a Member of the Friends Committee. She is also a member of the Twinning Association. In her spare time she likes to entertain friends and likes to work in her garden.
 





 

Debbie is the Deputy Town Mayor and has lived in the Stowmarket area for the past 12 years. She lives with her husband Brian and their two sons, Joseph and Matthew. She is a Parish Councillor, School Governor and has been on several PTA's for local schools.

Debbie works for the Meningitis Trust as a volunteer after having personal experience of the disease. Debbie works part-time in Management, Consultancy and Accounts and enjoys various hobbies with her family in her spare time. Debbie is passionate about Stowmarket and its community and is hoping to improve the surroundings and represent the local people.

CENTRAL WARD  
Councillor Colin Groundsell
Colin moved to Stowmarket in September 1988 after spending 22 years as a career serviceman in the army. After a period working as a chef at Cedars Hotel followed by a 14 year stint at John Rannoch foods, Colin took early retirement in April 2006.

Since then he has become more interested in what was happening in the local community, an interest which led to him becoming a Town Councillor in May 2007. Colin has been an active member of the Council, serving on various committees and working groups.
 
Councillor Mrs Lesley Mayes
Lesley moved to Stowmarket in 1986, prior to this she worked in the City for a merchant bank. Lesley was elected to the Town Council in 2003 and was privileged to become Town Mayor for the year 2005/06. In 2007 Lesley became a Mid Suffolk District Councillor and was given the responsibilty of being the Portfolio Holder for the regeneration of Stowmarket which is a very exciting project.

Lesley is also Chairman of the Governors at Stowmarket Middle School. Lesley also serves on other Committees and works with other organisations within Stowmarket and does her best to represent the concerns and views of all the residents in Stowmarket. Councillor Mrs Mayes is the Leader of Stowmarket Town Council.
 
Councillor Mrs Poppy Robinson
Poppy is the Town Mayor of Stowmarket. Poppy was born in Needham Market and attended Secondary School in Stowmarket. She is married with a son and a daughter, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Poppy moved to Stowmarket to set up and manage a residential care home which closed in 2001. She ran a Bed and Breakfast establishment from 2001 to 2007.

Poppy undertook a learning Cambridge based course in writing skills and plans to write a novel sometime. She was elected to the Town Council and the District Council in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 and she was very proud to serve as the Town Mayor in 2005. Poppy found it a great honour to serve as Chairman of Mid Suffolk District Council during 2008/09. Poppy's motto is "Today is not the dress rehearsal it is the performance."
 
Councillor Mrs Anne Whybrow
Anne was born in Ringshall and says Stowmarket has always been in her bones! As a youngster she had piano lessons in Bury Street and now lives just a few doors away. In 1978 she moved to Edgecomb Road and has since lived in various areas of the Town. Anne’s grown up children went to the Stowmarket schools and now have children of their own. Anne served as Town Mayor during the 2008/09 municipal year.
 
SOUTH WARD  
Councillor Keith Scarff
Keith has been a Town Councillor for just over 10 years. He is married to Sarah and has a son, Daniel. Keith is also a Mid-Suffolk Councillor. Keith is also the Chairman of both the Pickerel Project group and the Road Safety Committee as well as a member of the Town Twinning Association. When spare time permits, Keith enjoys gardening and classical music.
 
Mike moved to Stowmarket in 1988 from Grays in Essex and was elected to the Town Council in May 2007. He has been married for 41 years and has 3 children, 2 of whom live in Stowmarket Although Mike is semi retired he still seems to be working many hours as a Petroleum Surveyor. His hobbies and interests are digital photography and trying to lower his golf handicap. Mike feels confident for the future of Stowmarket and looks forward to serving Stowmarket now and in the future.

Councillor Chris Vecchi
Chris has been a Liberal Democrat member of the Council since May 2007. He has lived in Combs Ford since 2004. Previously he worked in London as a financial journalist and customer relations for the insurance industry.

Chris chairs Stowmarket Town Council's groups dealing with emergency planning and railway services. Chris can be contacted on 01449 676761
 
Councillor Mrs Vera Waspe

Councillor Mrs Vera Waspe has served as a Town Councillor for 7 years. Councillor Mrs Waspe has lived in Stowmarket all her life, marrying a local farmer’s son, Ray Waspe in St Peter and St Mary’s Church. Married for 34 years Vera and Ray have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Vera has continued to run the family farm since the death of her husband in 1989 as well as serve as a member of the Stowmarket Carnival Committee for 20 years.
